Story Telling...Organizing Narrative Text

WOW!! I have not posted in forever (the start of this year has been a bit rougher than previous ones)....

BUT, it is time to get back into the groove!

To get things going, here's a chart and freebie that my 4th graders are using to kick off our study of narrative text!

This is the chart we are using to review the basic elements of a story:

What Classroom Resources Are On Your Wish List??

As summer comes into full swing, many of us have already started thinking about our classrooms.  I personally, have a running “idea” and “to-do” list, that I am constantly adding to on my phone.
Anyway…I’m in a “creating kind of mood” AND I’d love your input about possible teacher created resources you would find helpful for this coming up school year….
Oh, and of course any other items that are on your 2012 Classroom Resource Wish List!
SOOOO….Once this list has been started, shared on Facebook and pinned to Pinterest, your wish list will be shared, with all of the fabulous teacher bloggers out there!
I can’t wait to get this started!

I Scream...You Scream…We All Scream for….ICE CREAM!!

-A Fun Summer Freebie-
I love the fact that summer allows me to use my own children as guinea pigs, for projects and activities that I would like to use in my classroom.  They are usually good sports and are great at helping me “problem solve” any potential issues.

This has turned out to be one of their favorites!!

This is where I found this great brochure for making ice cream…an excellent following directions activity.

Mastering Multiplication….It Really Does Matter!

I’m working on getting ready to share and post an item that I created several years ago, but before I do, I’d like to know if it is really something that my fans and followers would be interested in.

Some High Flying, End of the Year Fun!

Let’s Go Fly a Kite. . .

I love the end of the year and all of the stress free fun and “outside of the box” learning it brings!  This last week, I decided it was time to put my students’ following directions skills to the test…..Which lead to some HIGH FLYING FUN!  I gave the students directions on how to make a simple kite. The kite consisted of a sheet of construction paper, tape, tissue paper strips and a straw.  I have included the link for you.

After my students flew their handmade kites, I then gave them Dollar Tree kites to fly (I had purchased these for the string and just in case the others didn’t work).  We were all surprised to find, that our handmade kites flew and stayed together much better than the store bought kites!

Our kite flying experience made for a great afternoon!  This week we are going to give paper airplanes a try!
More details to come….

Ideal for wrapping up the school year and filling that time of the last few days of the school year, in a meaningful way.

Once completed, this brochure creates an easy starting point for the beginning of the next school year. Your routines, procedures and classroom systems are explained, by your current students, to your new students.

Open House Project Pizzazz #3 is BUBBLELICIOUS!!

Our Bubble Bursting Gum Projects

These projects turned out to be a fun & creative way to share  several of the major standards that we focused on this year.

The project incorporated the following:
-Timeline (The History of Gum)
-Facts/Opinions
-“How to” Writing (Written by students for parents to follow)
-Compare/Contrast (Types of gum)

Each students also made a little paper box and I filled it with gum.  Their parents then followed the "How to Blow a Bubble" directions page in the flip book.  It was great to watch!

Here is a peek of what the inside pages look like:

Some other cute covers, they did such a great job!

If you have any questions, please ask, and I'd love to read your comments or feedback!
